Rock'n'Roll Rent Party happens the first sunday of every month at APK in downtown London Ontario. It's an afternoon/early evening event running from 3 till 7PM which gives you plenty of time to recover for your return to the salt mines on monday.
The event will feature local pub rock combo The Mongrels as the resident band, and each month there will be another band joining them. For this show, Straight Jacket will be the opening band.
There is no cover, it's a pass the hat around to help pay the bands and there might be some surprises as every one so far has had some.
The event will be MC'd by whatwave dave of CHRW's Radio What Wave, heard every thursday at 6PM.
So get your dancing shoes shined up and come on down for all the action at APK on Sunday January 4th 2015, your last chance to party before the holidays are over and it's back to work.
Straight Jacket are a local 1977 UK styled punk combo. They describe themselves quite accurately as "Straight Jacket is a punk band. We sound like most punk bands, The Clash, The Ramones, that kinda thing." To these ears, they sound more like the Anti-Nowhere League with their sexist, anti government rantings and total disrespect for authority. And that's a good thing!

10q Joe B: The Mongrels rawk some more
James Reaney - January 1st, 2015
(Undated) QMI Agency file shot: Joel Gehman, left, Robert Charles-Dunne and Colin Mitchell of the Mongrels rock Bayfield. Drummer James Mitchell is also with the London band. (JBNBlog note . . . Drummer with an excellent first name James Mitchell was a Mongrel sometime ago. Anybody know when this photograph was taken? Glad to learn Bayfield was rawked by The Mongrels whatever the day or night.
Today section colleague Joe Belanger truly must be my brother from another mutha . . . . he’s just started 2015 with a bang (or ended 2014 with a ditto) by writing about The Mongrels, often praised here as the band with the best setlist in London (or words to that effect).
Here’s how they do it, Mongrel R C-D tells Joe:
“We’re the only band in town that does The Byrds and The Buzzcocks, Steve Earle and The Sex Pistols and we play none of the hits, all of the time,” said guitarist Robert (Slim Sugar) Charles-Dunne. “We try to go for stuff people know but may have forgotten about. And we do originals, filthy originals always about sex. We’re old, but we’re not dead.”
The band includes drummer Carlos La Torre, bassist Colin Mitchell and Joel Gehman, who shares guitar duties with Charles-Dunne. For a taste of the music, see the YouTube videos at youtube.com/watch?v=L6FK8iAJ4LM and youtube.com/watch?v=qqneBEZ164U (or see below).

Kick off the first Sunday of January — and every other month — with the Mongrels Rock ’n’ Roll Rent Party.
The ongoing series features local pub-rock combo The Mongrels (as the resident band), and Straight Jacket (as this month’s opening band and special guest). CHRW DJ WhatWave Dave will MC the event (and you can also hear him Thursdays at 6 p.m. on CHRW’s Radio What Wave).
Straight Jacket will bring their 1970’s UK-style punk (taking a page from the likes of The Ramones and The Clash), while The Mongrels will play their mix of covers and original tunes.
The Mongrels Rock ‘n’ Roll Rent Party takes places Sunday from 3-7 p.m. This afternoon show is free.
